Anita Nandi, the first wife of Sanjeevani Buildcon managing director J D Nandi, is being brought to the state capital from Maharashtra's Nagpur following her arrest by a special investigating team (SIT) of Jharkhand police. After her arrest, vigilance officials are hopeful to get further clues for cracking the multicrore realty scam involving Sanjeevani Buildcon, one of the largest property developers in the state capital.
CID IG Anurag Gupta, who is heading the recently constituted SIT, said the arrest would work as a step forward in cracking the scam. DGP G S Rath on Friday directed officials concerned to seize properties of the accused. Rath held a meeting with SIT officers to review progress of the investigation.
In the meeting, where DG vigilance M V Rao was also present, the DGP directed officials to send investigators outside the state, if needed, to hasten the process of seizure of properties, and finally to arrest the accused as soon as possible.
Along with Anita, Nandi's second wife Anamika and associates have been accused of bungling crores of rupees from over 100 gullible flat buyers. The accused had taken advance payment from buyers against the promise of allotting them flats but later they allegedly cheated the buyers.
"Anita was in Satara to meet her daughter who is studying medical science there. She was detained by two inspectors at the medical college," said Gupta. Armed with arrest warrants, two CID inspectors have been scanning tentative whereabouts of Anita in Raipur, Mumbai and Pune for the last few days. "Efforts are being intensified to arrest other accused. We are hopeful that rest of the accused will be arrested soon," said Gupta. The other accused on the run are Nandi's associates Shyam Kishore Gupta, P P Lala, Arvind Singh alias Pappu, Ram Prasad Verma, Abdul Baham and Shamim Khan.
Gupta said, "Since Anita has been arrested in Maharashtra, we will also investigate whether the accused have made any investments in Mumbai or Pune." In the second week of April, several cheated flat buyers had thronged the city-based office of Sanjeevani Buildcon and demanded payback of their advance money.
As they were not repaid, several FIRs were lodged with police stations in the city. The local court on Friday also issued a notice against the accused that has warned them of property seizure.
It will be put up at the houses of the accused and if they do not surrender within the given period, their properties would be seized.
